| Alan Hernried has studied at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship, the Oregon School for Arts and Crafts, and with renowed Canadian furniture designer and craftsman Michael Fortune. Alan's experiences living and traveling extensively in Western Europe as well as on the east and west coasts of the US contribute to the breadth of his design perspective. His background in engineering, which culminated in a doctorate in structural mechanics from the University of California-Berkeley and more than a decade as a University faculty member, form the basis for the precision associated with the realization of a new design into a solid, functional piece of furniture. Alan is currently a member of the Guild of Oregon Woodworkers and the Mid-Willamette Valley Woodworkers Guild, and is a past President of both organizations. He has also participated in the Distance Mastery Program at the Northwest Woodworking Studio under the direction of Gary Rogowski. Alan's work has been on exhibit at the Northwest Gallery of Fine Woodworking in Seattle, Washington and at The Wood Gallery in Newport, Oregon. Alan makes his home in Corvallis, Oregon. |
